Today I finalized and turned in my Six Word Story project. This is easily my favorite assignment we have completed so far, especially because I got to base it on the sport that I love playing. However I did encounter a few obstacles and had to tweak quite a few things before I was able to get my final product. Originally, my plan was to film it in my local gym/rec center, which makes the most sense because I play there almost everyday during the off season. when me and my friend arrived to film, they wouldn't let us in because my friend Johnny was not a member at the gym. At first I thought about completely scraping the project and trying something else, but I quickly realized I could achieve just as great of a result using my own hoop at my house. Now that Ive completed the entire project I am actually thankful that we were kicked out of the gym, I really liked the way this turned out. One thing that I did not enjoy about the project though was the fact that each shot had a window of only 3-5 seconds and the entire video could only last around 30 seconds. This frustrated me because there was a lot more I wanted to tell in my story which made it hard to illustrate it all in just 6 shots. for students who will have this assignment in the future I would highly suggest capturing as much film as possible. This will ensure you have a wide variety of shots to choose from so that you will not have to go out and re capture any of your shots.

Before we begin to film our six word story projects, our class was given the task of capturing 19 different camera shots in preparation for possible inspiration when filming our projects in the near future. Some of these shots I have seen in movies and am quite familiar with, I was just surprised to find the actual names of the all of the shots. I always like capturing my images all in the same vicinity/room if possible because I like the idea of sticking with the same overall theme. I thought the weight room would be a perfect place to capture these images in that it offers a variety of different objects and structures in such a small area. One of my favorite shots I took was an extreme close up of my face while I'm laying face up on a bench doing a chest press. Another included a full wide shot of the entire weight room. It is a very important shot because if I was actually filming a video in the weight room establishing a wide shot to give a viewer some context is critical. I plan on using a few of these shots in my upcoming project, it will for sure be my best one yet.
In class recently we learned about famous American novelist Ernest Hemingway and the creation of the idea of telling a story in six words. We also got to view the famous "for sale, baby shoes, never worn." in class. What I found most interesting about it was the amount of information and emotions they can reflect with such few words. After some extra research in class I was well prepared when we began brainstorming our own six words stories. During my research, I visited the Ernest Hemingway museum/home website. It provided some awesome contextual evidence not only about Hemingway himself, but the development of his specific style. This information definitely helped me create my own six word story outline for our next video project. I like that you have the freedom to choose a topic or idea that is significant to yourself and can film this outside of classroom if you need to. I am for sure planning on making my six word story about my love for the game of basketball, although I am not certain how I am going to shoot it.
